Description

Everybody knows George Washington. Very few know how badly he failed before he became the man whose name we still invoke 250 years later. My next podcast guest is filmmaker Jon Erwin, who stopped by to talk about his new movie Young Washington. It’s not another history lesson. It’s the story of an ambitious 22-year-old who made some spectacular mistakes long before he became the indispensable man. Before long, we found ourselves talking about why failure is usually a better teacher than success and what it actually takes to become the sort of person other people are willing to follow.  The best stories don't tell you what to think. They simply make you curious enough to want to know more. This one did exactly that for me. As America celebrates its 250th birthday, this conversation reminded me that the best way to appreciate our history isn't to memorize it—it's to get curious about it.  Watch it and let me know what surprised you the most. I think you'll enjoy it. Young Washington is in theaters now. Get your tickets here. https://bit.ly/TWIHIYoungWashington #podcast #america #movie A special thanks to: Stand Together—a philanthropic community that helps America’s boldest changemakers tackle the root causes of our country’s biggest problems. Thoroughly enjoyed this interview, as I do most of Mike’s interviews. Just saw Young Washington yesterday- fantastic. As with all of Jon Erwin’s movies, there are beautiful and solid biblical life lessons! It’s time for America to get back to it’s moral and God honoring roots.

After being in USMC for 11 years I went to College a Texas Tech University in early 1990's I had to take American History from founding thru to pre Civil War. The class was taught by a British exchange professor who was retired SAS ... he taught the whole thing from the Brithsh perspective! WoW it was fun! We both had extreme respect for each other's experience and background. Other students were just out of high school so they were not as engaged with the class. It was great - I loved it!

You were talking about the Musical,"1776". Here's a memory from 50 years ago: On this day. 50 years ago, I took part in the Musical "1776". Blake Edwards sent a letter to our play director, (our High School band director) telling us that we were the only legitimate production of that musical in the entire USA. As a High School student heading into my senior year, it's one of my proudest moments even though my part wasn't important.
