How is he broke we see his money in the show
The car is a rental, the only way the cop guy finds him is because he rented the car from the people he was hiring, and it shows the rental papers at some point.
Gihun in his eyes is still broke, because all of the money belongs to all the people he watched die :(
I think part of the miscalculation could be that the building they showed in the show isn't meant to be the literally the same as the real life one, so it could be a whole lot cheaper.
this theory really fumbled it, between the dub vs sub differences, the 0.1% mistake (45.6 mil, not 456 mil), the car mistake (gi hun's car is rented not purchased) and the odd estimations it ended up very off the mark
You guys messed up. Gi-Hun probably paid his debt back as soon as he came back. Then he would have gotten interest on whatever was left
I think if the tangible evidence of the show conflicts with your theory, then the more likely answer is not that the show isn't mathing, it's that your theory isn't mathing. If the money is sitting as cash in a hotel room then it obviously isn't invested to earn more money. Therefor you should be starting with what we know for a fact, in this case the physical cash he has left, and work backwards from there.
This theory has really missed the mark. A second watch-through and/or more resources would have done you well for this. Some things are just overlooked like Gi Hun renting the car from the loan sharks being a major plot point in the story. If Jun Ho hadn't found the rental papers, he wouldn't have been able to find Gi Hun in the first place. Also, Gi Hun purchasing the motel from the loan sharks could have given him a major discount since he pays them and just because it is a real building, doesn't mean it's meant to be the same building. If that's the case then we would have to take that into account for every theory with every building in every show. I think also you sticking to the highest number for all your estimates based on pure hypothesis of how much things cost vs how much they actually cost is your biggest issue and breaks your theory. You also are generous with numbers where you don't have to be, for example, determining that construction workers in Korea make about $15/hour and then raising it to $20 without a good reason doesn't make sense, especially if $15 is the high end. To make the claim Gi Hun is broke and is just as corrupt as those running the games would need some harder evidence and real numbers. I also saw someone comment saying that taking the stacks of cash as the starting point and going backward from there would have been the better option and I agree. I don't really think you had anything to work with here and a different squid game-related theory would have been much more interesting. Gi Hun's character from the very start of season one has been someone who is very against these games and the money obtained for the games. I think him betraying his moral code would be interesting, but I don't at all think that's what's happening- nor do I think you have enough evidence to back this theory up.
Idk what happened in the writing room for this video, but the comment section seems to have done better research π
βHyundai he bought instead of rentedβ while the show explicitly says he rented it is wild π
