My sister was in a coma and the doctor pronounced her brain dead and told us she needed to be removed from life support. Our family came in to say goodbye and just before life support was removed she moved her foot. The doctor insisted it was just reflexive and she was dead. Next we asked her to move her foot again and she did it upon command each time. Two days later she was sitting up in bed talking to us. The doctor walked out of the room without even admitting he was wrong. Saving lives is harder than letting people die and doctors sometimes prefer the easy way.
It’s illegal to sell your own organs but not illegal for the hospital to sell them to other people
I'm a physician. I'm not an organ donor. Take from that what you will.
This is beyond sick. A friend of mine was killed in a car accident, her family were in the waiting room while she was in surgery thinking they were trying to save her life. They were actually just trying to salvage whatever viable organs she had left. They didn't bother asking the family...because she was listed as an organ donor. A desperate family clinging to hope that doctors will save their daughter and meanwhile they were only operating for organs. I'm not saying she would have survived the accident, but at least have the decency to tell the family they are no longer trying. She was 21 years old and a wonderful person.
I got my CDL in March. The guy at the DMV made me an organ donor without asking me. I saw it when I got home and went straight back over there HOT. The guy claimed that it "rolled over because I already was one" I told him "bullshit! I know you're lying because I specifically had that taken off my license 2 years ago. FIX IT" he then tried to play it off as he "accidentally" clicked the button. Absurd. My Father was a trauma surgeon for years as a civilian and was a flight surgeon in Vietnam. He told me straight up that it is not a good idea to have that designation on your license. A LOT OF DOOCTORS OUT THERE WILL LET YOU DIE.
I dated a girl who was a nurse, she told me they won't take the same measures to save the life of an organ donor. She said it's better for the hospital if the donor dies because they want the millions your organs are worth.
I’m an ICU nurse. Remove yourself from your state’s organ donation list. If you become unable to make your own medical decisions, your next of kin can decide EVERY SINGLE THING that involves your medical care EXCEPT taking you off the organ donation list. If you’re not on it, they can opt to donate your organs anyway, but not the reverse.
Just like the “why cure it for $1 when we can treat it for $10”
I was 16 yrs old in 1991 when I went in to get my drivers license and remember the lady asking me if I wanted to be an organ donor. “Yes,” I said immediately and was handed my license after with it stating I was an organ donor. As I walked out a surgeon that happened to be in the lobby and overheard me agreeing to being an organ donor advised me to go back to the counter and have them remove it, I asked why and he said “If you get into a car accident or whatever has you end up in the ER they will not try as hard to save your life or even try just for my organs.” I walked back up to that counter and had that lady remove organ donor from my license. Not only did I remove my parents did as well and I always advise against it.
My husband died of a heart attack after coming in from running. Because he was a donor, they worked for literally 4 hours to bring him back so they could harvest his body. It was horrific for my adult children. He was brain dead and on a respirator. I had to say turn it off. The health directives were ignored. There weee no goodbyes because “they had to start their harvest process.” I’m no longer a donor. It is not what they say.
