Description

Bodycam footage reveals the chaos as first responders swarm the "Stardust Racers" ride at Epic Universe after 32-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala was gravely injured on the roller coaster. While the Orange County Sheriff's Office concluded the death was an accident, Kevin's family criticized the park for its safety procedures and quick reopening of the ride. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber dig into the emergency response, the investigations, and the park's decision to update guidelines for guests using mobility devices on the Stardust Racers. He shouldn't have been on the ride. He had a spinal issue to begin with and didn't have the strength to withstand that ride.

Looks like its more of a "he shouldn't have been on that ride to begin with" to me.

Someone with spinal issues should not be getting on a ride like that

This is a result of people being afraid to say no because they are afraid to hurt people's feelings or assume they would offend them.

How is a paraplegic allowed to go on a ride like that in the first place, clearly a disabled body cannot deal with the forces the same way an able body can!

The fact that a device to transfer people who can't walk onto a roller-coaster even exists blows my mind.

Family needs to take accountability. There’s inheritent risk to anyone without a disability. With this man’s spinal disability and being wheelchair dependent, he had no business being on that coaster. This isn’t the fault of the operators.

There was a very similar story at another park involving a disabled veteran who lost both of his legs. He lost his life after falling out of a ride when the lap restraints couldn’t hold him in place. These rides are not designed to accommodate riders with disabilities, so it seems crazy to me that amusement parks are permitted to seat people with spinal injuries. The restraints on this coaster were probably never tested with someone who can’t support their own body weight to stay upright. I am in awe of people with mobility challenges who navigate the world with bravery and determination, but riding extreme roller coasters just seems beyond risky.

They were probably worried if they refused to let him ride for safety reasons, they would get tons of backlash on social media and a civil suit for discriminating against a disabled person. This is the type of world we live in now.

Apparently having extremely poor judgment has its downsides.
