We can't afford to pay teachers, but we can afford to turn the schools into jails.

The "one door" thing is a terrible idea. I work as a sub, and this just leads to people getting trapped. Most of the time only a few staff members have access to the gate keys, so kids would be shot down trying to climb the fences. Terrifying.

Like someone said a few days ago : take the dangerous thing away ! When your toddler is running around with scissors...are you gonna make everything stab-proof, give the kid stab-proof clothing & helmet ? Or are gonna take those fèkking scissors away !? GTFOOH.

It's baffling how many folks are calling for more armed guards after the epic failure of both Parkland and Uvalde.

“Bring Jesus into schools to fix Millennials...” He realizes we’re in our 30s and 40s now and it’s OUR kids who are being murdered.

This doesn't happen like this in Canada. Those citizens there are safer to go shopping and go to school and work without being shot dead. What's happening here is totally disgusting and shameful. And other countries are shaking their heads at it.

This cannot be real: One door and man traps. No sane person would make such suggestions not even as a joke.

Ballistic blankets? That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Meanwhile in Sweden, one of the least religious countries in the world, doors everywhere, and the same games, movies and music you listen to, we've had 11 school attacks since 1961. A total of 25 people were injured in these attacks (7 teachers, 18 students), and 11 of them died from their injuries (5 teachers, 6 students). The very first case in 1961 had the largest number of victims, with 6 injured and one dead. The rest have all had about 1-3 victims. Two of the attacks were carried out with firing arms (1961 and 2001), in 2015 an adult man killed 2 teachers and a student using a sword he'd bought online, there have been 8 knife attacks, and the last two I haven't been able to find any information what kind of weapon was used, but all victims (3 in total) in these cases were killed. In the USA 57 people have died in school attacks in the 2020s alone. That's 2,5 years compared to 7 decades with 11 dead. And the sickest part is that there are so many of you, even those among you who would welcome stricter gun laws, who simply shrug and go "It is what it is" and "There's nothing we can do about it." And while you sit on your hands, your children are dying. I wonder, will it still "be what it is" when it's your child, your teenager, your brother or mother or uncle "dying like a hero." I am a teacher and not once, not even when a right-wing nutjob with a sword attacked the school 300 yards away from the pre-shool were I worked, have I ever even considered what I would have to do or hos I should act in the case of an incident. We don't teach our children to hide under desks and live in fear.

They would love it if they could make this a one-door issue, so they can have an endless supply of scape-goats about the debate over guns; "who was in charge of that door! It's THEIR fault they didn't stop this, not ours!"
