Yep, my situation. Lost my tech job in Seattle, and been unemployed for months even though I've been applying any and everywhere.
No one believes that the U.S. unemployment rate is only 4.3%.
The H1B manipulation, corruption & misuse is out of control. Pure American citizens 😢😂
In before the media unironically tells them to learn to code. ☕
I think back to the sub-prime crisis, which was the first one i experienced head on. One of my friends, which started as a client, told me this back then : "I thought i was insulated. House paid, business had no debt, actually a little stash, we didn't have more people than we needed, no flashy stuff. What i forgot was that, we have a door where people walk through so we can make money. If people don't have money, they don't come in, WE don't make money...". They survived, but times were rough, many didn't. Point in case, unless you ALREADY have f'u money, you're NOT insulated.
Yeah, layoffs are hitting Seattle, it's not drastically bad, but effects are visible. Special thank to author for being honest and direct, that's the way reality works, it doesn't care how you feel or what you think. Reminded me of Fight club movie

It's important to note that 1) these trends began last year, and 2) while they continue laying off mostly US citizens, both Amazon and Microsoft are among the highest recipients of H-1B visa foreign national employees among US companies every year.
Eli bringing the truth as usual. I was in Grand Rapids, MI, in 2008 when the auto industry was collapsing, and we saw how all the state of Michigan suffered as too many things around the state survived off one industry.
