Asuncion Power: Low Tax Living, Real Estate Boom, and Tranquillo Culture in Paraguay

Discover why Asuncion offers an unparalleled blend of low taxes, cheap real estate, and a remarkably safe, relaxed lifestyle unmatched in South America.

Short Summary

  • Secure a corporate tax rate of only 10% on revenue and profit if you focus business locally.
  • Experience enhanced personal security and a significantly calmer social atmosphere compared to major neighbors like Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo.
  • Benefit from an exceptionally young demographic (70% under 40) fueling a rapid, developing build-out and property market.
  • Maintain flexibility by securing residency now while delaying commitment to the 3-year path toward citizenship.

The discussion navigates from the core lifestyle attributes and high safety levels in Asuncion to deep dives on the booming construction sector and the specific appeal for entrepreneurs seeking genuine alternatives outside progressive Western policies. This location functions well as a low-tax residence base, even if incorporating a purely international consulting firm might present banking hurdles.

After living in Latin America as a nomad for 8 years, I decided to settle down in Paraguay in 2024. I am pleased with my decision so far. Asuncion is the perfect place to live, run my online businesses, and invest in real estate.

I'm Paraguayan, and one saying I have about the country is: "Paraguay has nothing to see and a lot to feel." We don't have mountains, we don't have beaches (ocean), we don't have many geological wonders, nor do we have the greatest variety of foods. But one thing is certain: a Sunday barbecue with family and friends, general safety, kindness, and cordiality are what make one want to stay. Here in Paraguay, there's so much to be done, creating opportunities for all who want to.

For anyone planning to move here, before you make a big investment like buying a house or an apartment, rent first in Asuncion and Encarnacion, compare both cities and make your choice after that. I strongly recommend Encarnacion over Asuncion if you prioritize safety, cleaner streets, better street conditions, smoother traffic, more diverse culture, beaches, a more family friendly environment, less competition to start a business and many more advantages. Is a touristic city but at the same time perfect for families to live peacefully, ignore Ciudad del Este by the way, pick one between Asuncion and Encarnacion.
