Description

Michael & Vivian continue their TMNT journey with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014), jumping into the modern reboot as the iconic heroes emerge from the shadows to protect New York City from the Foot Clan and the return of Shredder. With reporter April O’Neil uncovering the truth behind their origins, the film blends large-scale action, updated character dynamics, and a more grounded take on the Turtles’ world. This continued reaction stands out for its mix of nostalgia and reboot energy, as Michael & Vivian react to the franchise’s modern take, big action set pieces, and reimagined story in real time. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Wrath of the Titans, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Killshot, Darkness Falls), and produced by Michael Bay (Transformers, Armageddon, Bad Boys, Pearl Harbor, 6 Underground), the film stars Megan Fox (Transformers, Jennifer’s Body, New Girl, This Is 40, Till Death), Will Arnett (Arrested Development, The LEGO Batman Movie, BoJack Horseman, Blades of Glory, 30 Rock), William Fichtner (Prison Break, The Dark Knight, Armageddon, Heat, Black Hawk Down), and Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld, Watchmen, Mirror Mirror, Bones, Special Unit 2), alongside the voice and performance capture of the Turtles, bringing together a cast tied to major franchises, comedy hits, and action films that continue to drive strong reaction and nostalgia-based audience appeal. ___________________________________________________ We've got merch! I remember Alan doing an interview explaining how horrific and inhumane his experience was filming this movie. He and the other actors playing the turtles were treated like garbage on set and behind the scene. They weren’t even invited to the movie premiere.

29:20 Interesting tidbit about the weapons, each turtle was given a weapon the opposite of themselves. First Leonardo the pacifist was given the katanas, the most aggressive weapon in Japanese history that requires you to commit to your strikes. Second Raphael, the most aggressive fighter was given a weapon primarily used for defense, teaching him how to block as well as attack. Third, Mikey the goofball was given the nunchakus a weapon that requires immense focus and concentration lest you injure yourself while using it. Finally Donatello the complex thinker was given a very simple weapon to demonstrate that at times the answer doesn't require much thought.

In nearly all TMNT media, Leonardo wields two ninjato (a medium-sized sword with a straight blade), which are often incorrectly called katana (longer sword with a curved blade). In this film, Leo wields actual katanas for the first time ever. April O'Neil (Megan Fox) has on a yellow jacket through the film. This pays homage to her appearance in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987), where she prominently had on a yellow jumpsuit During the movie, the Shredder says "Tonight I dine on turtle soup", his trademark line from Shredder & Splintered (1987). Ernie Reyes Jr., who starred in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991) (and acted as a stunt double for Donatello in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)), pitched a stunt video to Michael Bay in an attempt to serve as martial arts consultant on this film.

I always felt like the 80s cartoon had the best origin story. Splinter actually starting out as the human ninja master Hamato Yoshi who then mutated into a rat was always the best explanation for why he knew how to fight so well and was so good a teacher to the Turtles. 🐀 🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢

Fun fact: It has been heavily suggested, though never officially confirmed, that the mutagen that mutated the turtles was the same chemicals that blinded Matt Murdock and enhanced his other senses, making him Daredevil.

They took Shredder's alter ego and made it into it's own separate character. Of course they had to Americanise it. Oroku Saki= Erik Sacks.
