Lover’s Birthday Surprise Ends in Brutal Murder: Prosecutors

Linda Campitelli, a wife, mother, and nurse in Palm Beach County, was found dead on the side of a road in October 2024, and investigators later ruled her death a homicide after evidence suggested she had been violently attacked and dragged. Detectives uncovered messages showing she had been planning a secret birthday meet-up with former coworker Rene Perez, with whom she was having an affair, and began questioning his alibi after surveillance video, phone data, and a hidden burner phone allegedly placed him near the scene. After more than a year of investigation and extensive analysis of digital evidence, authorities arrested Perez and charged him with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
