I'm not even part of these companies or related to AI, but I got laid-off today. Economy is fucking miserable.

And with nobody working, how will we afford the buy the products or services that the one percenters sell?

It's obvious to anyone who is paying attention, the AI layoffs are just a mirage, an ILLUSION, to hide how bad the economy is, these layoffs are happening because companies can't expand or even keep their workers, and are desperatley hoping AI might counteract it, but it won't. It's just a recession with the word AI taped over it.

One of my co-workers made a brilliant point. He said what sounds better to investors. We are laying off people because of AI or Versus we are laying off people because the economy is sucking?

What these layoffs mean is that the tech companies have run out of new things to do to expand market share. Basically they are saying we have to lay people off because we have no FUTURE products or services to offer.
