Description

Sam Stein, Sonny Bunch, and Ben Parker give their takes on a Wall Street Journal story about a DC tax policy expert who made nearly $500,000 betting that Elon Musk wouldn’t actually cut federal spending, a wager that turned out to be almost free money. They break down how the bet worked, why it was such a lock, how political betting markets create openings for insider trading, and just how absurd some of these political wagers have become. The poly markets are an absolute plague in college and professional sports. Kids are getting as addicted to gambling as they are to their phones.

The whole "DOGE" thing wasn't about spending, anyway. It was all about Musk killing facets of government that went against his financial interests, and harvesting info that he can utilize to his benefit!

I hope every AP Gov teacher shows this story to their students and uses this to show this why it's important to learn and pay attention. 🤓

Elon fanboys have gone from merely insufferable to actually exploitable, for money. This is DELICIOUS. 😂

I like this topic, and I think it's funny! It is truly admirable to both reject advertising from prediction markets and then to report on it in a funny, engaging way.

Markets as polls is ridiculous because it's entirely self-selecting participants.

I love this topic! And Ben's quip about Trump being in files proving alien life was *chef's kiss*
