I was in Afghanistan. It's so exhausting when people endlessly act like there is some bright line between "totally Hamas" versus "totally civilian." I can never decide if this is done out of ignorance or a desire to confuse. This is not the West. It's not like "either you are a cop or you're not a cop." "Either you're a soldier or not a soldier." It's all very muddled and integrated within families and clans and neighbourhoods. Maybe your brother is a full fledged Hamas member. Your sister isn't Hamas but supports her brother and hangs out with him daily. It's not that hard to comprehend. At least that was the case in Afghanistan.
