Neil deGrasse Tyson Eats His Last Meal
Neil deGrasse Tyson's Last Meal: Cosmic Perspective and Life's Meaning
Discover astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson's definitive philosophy on mortality, the necessity of scientific literacy in governance, and why you should enjoy your best food today, not tomorrow.
Short Summary
- Embrace mortality, as knowing you will die gives meaning, focus, and purpose to every day.
- Stop saving your greatest food for a hypothetical last meal; make life delicious now.
- Demand that politicians listen to scientists, because scientifically misinformed decisions threaten democracy's functionality.
- We are carrying the elements forged in the Big Bang and stars; the universe is quite literally alive within us.
This session profiles Neil deGrasse Tyson's approach to his final meal, weaving astrophysics with profound life lessons. We explore his views on the role of science in society, the meaning derived from acknowledging death, and his eclectic culinary choices across three distinct courses, including vegetarian lasagna and highly-rated wine.

Meal DeGrasse Tyson
Josh still continuing his tradition of collecting father figures like they're pokemon on full display. Love it
I think he IS mad about that science fair second place….
Last Meal is such a good format for attracting cool guests. Who wouldn't want to be fed a pile of their favorite food?
This makes me think that if Bob Ross was still alive, he'd do this show.
Once again, I humbly request Steve Burns from Blue's Clues.
Your personal Gastrophysicist.
"it would grow a taillll, and that is NO kind of behavior for a planet" this cracked me up LOL.
Unfortunate news. After the airing of this episode, Neil Degrasse Tyson was hit by a bus that happened to sneak up on him while stargazing in Antarctica.
I love that Josh meets his guests where they are - Neil drinks the soup from the bowl, and Josh does, too. It seems like the point of this show is to share in peoples' experiences and perspectives, and he absolutely does so in every single episode. He will put his hands where his guests' are and taste as they taste. It's beautiful
