I wrote Jim Lovell a letter years ago and he sent me an autograph photo and he wrote, "Houston we've had a problem" on it. Big part of my collection
0:00-0:03 Rest in peace, Jim Lovell. Naval Aviator, Astronaut and great human being
The Naval officer that Tom Hanks shakes hands with at the end is the real life Jim Lovell. This movie is based on his book about the disaster called Lost Moon. After this film Tom Hanks did a series for HBO called From The Earth To The Moon. RIP Jim Lovell
The fact that we knew the outcome but were still on the edge of our seats watching is a testament to the actors and Ron Howard’s directing.
I love that Jim Lovell cameos in this film at the end, as well as Tom Hanks and Kathleen Quinlan spending weeks staying with the Lovells, trying to better portray their characters, talking to them about their experiences of those events. They were so calm and they were so brave. Rest in Peace Jim, you will never be forgotten, and always be loved.
97 times around the sun and 11 times around the moon. Nobody else has done that. RIP Captain.
"With all due respect sir, I believe this will be our finest hour" Always hits me in the feels. The sheer confidence and force of will to know that there is no room for failure; that when the lights were bright and the pressure was on we would step up to the plate and deliver. And they did!
The navy captain shaking tom hanks hand on the aircraft carrier at the end is the real James Lovell doing a cameo appearence a true hero and a humble man
The man Tom Hanks played in the film just passed away yesterday. He was 97. He lived a lot of years past that amazing experience…
R.I.P. Jim Lovell. They actually still had a heat shield, but didn't know if it had been damaged by the explosion. An iconic moment in American know-how.
