I’m American and have watched British politics for many years. There’s one more clip of Ms. Widdecombe I wish had been shown—her powerful defense of free speech at the Oxford Union. It was a real tour de force. I don’t think people here truly understand what a formidable force she was. She was an old-school conviction politician who never held back and feared no one. Her death is an incalculable loss for Great Britain and for free speech.
