The Hidden Crisis Modern Men Are Facing - Chamath Palihapitiya
Societal Collapse Metrics: Analyzing the Decline of Marriage, Homeownership, and Male Well-being
Uncover the confluence of social decay, digital addiction, and policy failure currently driving the American dream out of reach for younger generations. Understand the behavioral shifts and economic headwinds responsible for plunging marriage and homeownership rates.
Short Summary
- Young men struggle with necessary social skills, leading to widespread opting out of traditional dating and forming fragile online relationships.
- Housing affordability has critically declined since 1980, requiring massive income levels, which few young adults achieve as single earners.
- This societal fracturing correlates with significant spikes in major depressive episodes among adults aged 18 to 49. A speaker noted the intertwined nature of these trends, focusing heavily on the root causes related to gender socialization, digital media consumption, and economic policies surrounding education and housing. These factors result in fewer people coupling up and achieving traditional milestones.

bro just said welders make 200k. I searched it up and the average is 46k, or $22/hr. You can see how disconnected Chamath really is
“You’re making $200k, she’s making $200k” - man you guys are delusional. That’s top 0.1% salaries 😂
These guys are wildly out of touch.
But let's be clear. The people that told them "They must go to university" were the companies that refused to even glance at their resume if they didn't have a university degree.
The majority of wage gains since the US went off the gold standard have gone to women, the charts on this are stunning. It almost appears that there was an intentional transfer of sorts.
I am a 36 year old man who's been married for 12 years, with 5 children... Whenever it comes up in conversation how big my family is, sometimes it's like the other person looks at me like I'm an alien. While it's partially funny, it does reveal a sad truth of our day and age... It's incredible how rare it is these days to be married to the same person (in a committed life long relationship, until "death do us part", through the shitty times and the good times), have children together, attend Church every Sunday and have committed friendships with other people of the same faith who we can truly "do life with" (go to our kids soccer games together, beach trips, hiking, cookouts, etc.) Is my life perfect? Nope. Feeding 7 people is no joke. But wow... Is it fulfilling and rewarding. I cannot even imagine life without my wife, kids, and community of faith. Honestly, it would be pointless. But that's just my findings and my personal opinions on the matter. Maybe this feedback will serve someone. Hopefully, in the coming decades, there is a shift back towards the traditional lifestyle... But hey, what do I know?
