Quinn! You're only 12k away from 1 Million subs! This should be a community event! Now to the video, I'm literally watching this while reading the last page of Death's End! Cheers to the astronomical timing!
00:01 - Douglass Adams called this in such a funny way: “There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened”
Getting stuck in a death line/black domain and losing 18 million years real time when from your perspective it was just a few hours was one of the spookiest parts in the whole series, man Edit: I just recalled that it was actually a few days in orbit instead of a few hours but POINT STILL STANDS lol
The 3 body problem videos are really the best videos after Dune!!
Lore of Cixin Liu: I made the books for Quin to review. 29:52
My issue with “The Redemption of Time” is I feel like it takes one of the central messages of Liu work, that humans and Tri-solarians are just tiny specs in the universe and their little war kinda means nothing in the vastness of space, time and dimensions, and changes it so humans were very important and instrumentals in the universes reboot. Which makes it’s a lot less interesting of a story
Thank you for passing on the obsession with this series to me! People on Reddit who are better at mathing it out than myself have pointed out that the timelines don't match up for Singer's tri-vector foil attack to have been the one that took out our solar system. There's a decent amount of evidence in the official trilogy that another civilization, perhaps more advanced than Singer's, executed the dimensional attack on humanity. Also, I could be mistaken, but I don't think Death End ever states that the tri-vector foil was a dimensional attack. I like the idea that Cixin deliberately kept it mysterious because it really didn't matter in the end who destroyed Earth.
The thing with the original three body problem. The characters name have double meaning to them. For example Luoji is also seen as the Chinese word for “Logic” and Chenxin is also a Chinese word for “Sincerity”. So they are very much a representation of Humanity’s nature
Cheng Xin is the most infuriating character I've ever encountered in fiction. Her repeated blunders almost put me off of finishing this series but I'm glad I stuck with it. And your framing of her final sacrifice is something I was too frustrated with her to acknowledge when originally finishing Death's End so I appreciate you contextualizing it here.
"Liu Cixin has stated in interviews that he has not read the book in its entirety and considers the story of the Three-Body universe to be finished with Death's End. He views The Redemption of Time as something that belongs to the fans and Baoshu, but not as part of his own personal canon."
