This is such a crucial distinction. We often get trapped in whether a metaphor is 'true' or 'false', while missing the point of what it actually does to our nervous system when we live by it. Even when you observe something like a chair, car, or home, the notion of it remains an abstract in mind. Anything of the existential can not really be confirmed to actually exist, as it is perceived by a person, merely because it's palpable.

here's the problem with this way of thinking. it's mixing up two different things: how we understand something, and whether that thing actually exists. we use models and concepts for everything — gravity, time, space, even the universe itself. nobody says gravity is only a metaphor because humans use math to describe it. the explanation is created by us, but that doesn't mean the reality behind it is. so why would God be different? you said humans can't fully comprehend God. i agree that human understanding is limited. but the limits of our understanding don't prove that there is nothing beyond it. not being able to fully understand something is not the same as showing it doesn't exist. also, saying religion gives people meaning or helps society doesn't answer the main question: is it true or not? something can be useful and true, or useful and false. those are two different questions. the deeper question is still there: why is there something rather than nothing? why does reality have laws, order, and a foundation that can be understood by the human mind? calling God a metaphor doesn't answer that question. it only explains how humans talk about God, not whether there is something real behind those ideas. yes, our language is limited and our concepts are imperfect. but an imperfect understanding of something doesn't mean there is nothing there to understand.

Can he explain the metaphor of Manifest Destiny? Was that for the good?

It's true that God can only be expressed through metaphors, because a finite mind has no direct access to the Absolute. But that tells us something about the limits of human cognition, not about the ontological status of what the metaphor refers to. A metaphor may be incomplete without being false by definition. Metaphorical language is therefore a consequence of our finitude, not evidence that God is merely a human construct. Pure logic.

Real is something that we can VERIFY by: - our senses and - reason In order God to be real in that perspective He/It should be a SUBJECT to our perception, senses and reasoning. And that is not God by even vague definition. But... Is there any "contact" with God possible or it is all "stories" invented by the people? The answer seems to be positive. Although, because God is BEYOND anything that can be "seen" such "contact" can't be EXPRESSED in thoughts and words. So - Tao Te Ching "Those who speak - do not know. Those who know - do not speak". But the problem of God not being possible element of perception leads to strange solutions. It is you who need to seek God. It is God who can give you kind of experience even beyond words. So you can't find God in a "scientific" way. It's useless. But you can find in that way some clues. It is strange "reality". "I believe when I see" - said Thomas. The reality may be different or opposite. You will see, when you believe enough. How much is enough? Long story. Probably you need to loose everything on that road.
