Can we just talk about how smooth that transition in the intro was?
Having a more useable outside screen should reduce the times one opens, and closes it, thus reducing stress on the hinge. Smart idea.
I've been using a Zflip3 for almost 2 years and the feeling of separation you get when you close it is one of the best features. It's like closing your laptop at work and giving something else your full attention. It makes you a lot more conscious of when you are spending time on your phone and when you are not which is a really good thing.
Its so crazy how in just a few years we went from those wonky "foldable" screens that felt like folding a rubber mat, to practical and usable folding screens.
I have a flip 3, and find the half-open is super useful as it's essentially a built-in camera tripod. Honestly one of the biggest positives of a folding phone.
I'm probably gonna be sticking with the Flip style phones for a long time. My favourite "feature" is that they fit in my pockets while also being big enough for modern standards :)
For those using a Fold/Flip (and dont know about this yet): You can use two fully seperate launchers on the two screens using an App called Tasker. Its a bit annoying to set up, but once thats done you have another big option to customise the device to your needs. Personally I used Niagara Launcher on the outside and Hyperion on the inside screen of my Fold 3
There's a number of other specs that weren't mentioned in this video that I thought would be mentioned since the video noted he was wrong about how important the changes were from the flip 4. The most important hardware changes include the NITS went from 1200 to 1750, UFS storage speeds went from 3.1 to 4.0, USB-C port went from 2.0 (no idea why it was still on 2.0) to 3.2 and Wifi went from 6 to 6e. Obviously a number of performance improvements but those are side effects of the faster cpu/gpu.
After years of being an iPhone user, I've made the switch to the Flip 5 and I couldn't be happier. This is definitely my new go-to device – it's super fun and incredibly practical
MKBHD is such a unique watch for me because I personally don’t really care much nor understand much about this tech, but I’m always finding myself on his channel waiting for his opinion on a product I didn’t even know existed.
