Its less the end of identity politics and more so a decline of politically correct culture.

Just my experience in how bad things have gotten with identity politics. A friend of mine's husband was running for re-election as an Alderman in my city in Illinois, and she is also into politics. And she flat out explained that this time around he was being challenged by an accomplished black woman..... and because of that he had "virtually NO chance" of getting the Democrat nomination for the race. And she is pretty liberal herself. Her words proved to be right, despite quite a lot of effort he put into campaign and being the incumbent, he lost. But the way it was so flatly admitted in advance. Geez.
