What Did Pope Leo Say About Pornography?
Technology’s Unseen Hand: How Digital Addiction and Historical Advancements Shape Political Outcomes
Discover why Pope Leo XIV links internet pornography and gambling to political decay and learn how seemingly separate historical technologies consistently determined the shape of religious and social ideologies.
Short Summary
- Pope Leo XIV directly addressed internet addiction (porn, gambling) as a source of decaying social values and political problems. [00:00:06]
- Tangible technologies—like the printing press, clock, and automobile—historically forged dominant ideologies, proving ideology rarely exists outside its physical context. [00:05:33, 00:07:42]
- Modern media visibility forces legislators to play to the camera, abstracting functional debate from reality. [00:08:40]
- Speaker argues that the screen-based, compulsive digital life allows abstract identity ideologies to set in, divorced from physical reality. [00:10:14]
This discussion examines Pope Leo XIV's condemnation of digital dependency and then traces persistent historical patterns where communication and physical technology directly caused massive ideological ruptures in society. Understanding this link helps contextualize contemporary political dysfunction.

I think the Vatican should be LOUDER in denouncing and calling for action against sin and evil.
As a Catholic, my biggest problem with the Church is how shy it is. It should be speaking out about abortion, ponography, euthanasia, etc... Every single day, not just some day before Christmas, but every single waking day!
No porn. No weed. Go to confession. Go to mass.

Part of the problem is that the internet has spaces to reinforce behaviors that people would naturally suppress out of shame but if they see a few other people are like them they start seeing these behaviors as normal
Got to visit Vatican City the other day and attended mass at the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major. Although I’m not catholic, I was very impressed the community and faith Catholics have. It was a very moving experience…
Thanks for laying out some of the Plato/Aristotle differences
The Pope is totally right about this
