Real Story Behind 'Murdaugh: Death in the Family' Revealed by Killer's Lawyer
Defense Attorney Slams Hulu Murdaugh Series for Inaccuracy
Learn precisely what Alec Murdaugh’s defense attorney identified as fictionalized dramatics, miscasting, and factual untruths in the Hulu miniseries.
Short Summary
- Dick Harpootlian dismisses the Hulu show as a "fictional soap opera" designed to "monetize misery."
- He disputes key dramatic elements, including alleged infidelities, lawyer consultations, and specific family trips.
- Harpootlian strongly suggests the conviction relied on jury tampering by Clerk of Court Becky Hill, not just the evidence presented.
- The discussion contrasts dramatized motives with the actual trial record, highlighting how narrative choices obscure factual nuances.
This interview captures attorney Dick Harpootlian's critical review of "Murdaugh: Death in the Family." He details specific scenes he claims never happened and argues that known procedural issues, like clerk involvement, provide a better context than the show's narrative shortcuts. This review is vital for separating dramatization from the established trial record.

This case was over when the video was revealed that proved Alex was at the kennels. That sealed it.
I don’t believe this man knows how to tell the TRUTH.. like, EVER!
How bout you not do terrible things then no one can make a tv show about you doing terrible things??
When he said no he didn’t his head is shaking yes
Alex was found guilty because he IS guilty. 🙄.
All I can see, body language wise, is that every time he said "No" is that he shook his head "yes". And to quote one of my favourite sayings "The body never lies" and "The body keeps the score". Look it up. Facts.
I thought this would be a substandard Lifetime creation. But I’ve been so impressed with the storytelling in comparison to what was represented in the courts, media, including Law and Crime. The Cast and Acting is perfection!! 👍 👍
"It's all fantasy" and "inaccurate" meanwhile only points out that the false things depicted are the things that have nothing to do with Alex actually unaliving his family lol
If anyone deserves an Oscar, it's Alex for his stellar performance during the trial. What an actor!
He was never concerned about finding the "real" killer or show any concern for Buster's safety. He's right where he should be.
