Glenn Greenwald recently responded to an article by Chris Hedges titled “The Purge of the Deep State and the Road to Dictatorship” describing Donald Trump’s dismantling of longstanding government institutions as a portent of worse to come. Greenwald disagreed with Hedges’ assessment, crediting Trump with positive steps like defunding USAID and firing thousands of civilian employees at the Pentagon.
