As should be readily apparent by now, the Democratic Party has all but abandoned working class voters — of all colors — in the United States. As a recent story in The Atlantic details, the blue collar workers who once formed the backbone of the Democratic Party have been largely thrown over in favor of white collar professionals, and this shift, rather than racism, largely explains the millions of Obama voters who switched allegience in 2016 and voted for Trump over Hillary Clinton.
