To future viewers. Knoxville is a great guy, he just HATES talking deep. Josh got it.
Johnny is a really tough interviewee for this format, he seems to exist very much in the present with that “why would I linger on that” kind of mentality. I think Josh did a fantastic job adjusting his interviewing to meet Johnny where he’s at and try to get more insightful moments. Adding the hunter s thompson meal was very smart, you can see Johnny start to open up more afterward; in combination with josh’s slower, gentler approach i think the team did a great job making this interview work!!!!
Knoxville is notorious for being a tough interview. Josh did well meeting him where he's at
Weird Al would be such an amazing guest. PLEASE
Props to Josh for being able to pivot so quickly. Johnny definitely challenged the usual format of the show, but honestly these are the episodes I love the most because it really shows how good Josh is at being an interviewer. He can read the room and then pivot in an instant to accommodate and make them feel at ease.
It's weird seeing some people label this as awkward or tough when it was literally a mostly normal convo with someone who just doesn't take every experience as inherently introspective. It feels like there's some parasocial aspect of this show where fans obviously love the deeper, emotional format that Last Meals can produce, but then immediately overreact or can't comprehend guests that just inherently have more straight to the point answers or don't have a deep connection to every meal they picked. He wasn't even combative, just pretty chill and gave thoughtful answers even if they weren't unlocking some deep, core memories.
Josh pivoted from being super lively to being more reserved after he noticed Johnnys annoyance. Great interview
"Their brain is giving them bad information" is a great way to put mental health disorders.
"I can compartmentalise buttholes and beer" THATS A VERY KNOXVILLE SENTENCE😂
that "hello my name is johnny knoxville" just brings back good memories kind of like smelling a grandparents house
