I’m glad y’all covered this! Maturing is realizing Roscoe’s family was toxic and it’s no wonder why he didn’t visit. If my family constantly made jokes at my expense and still saw me as that awkward kid, therefore treating me as such. On top my own dad blatantly favoring my cousin, talking down on my career and making it seem like I’m stuck up for doing better for myself, my visits would be sparse too.

This movie made roscoe look like the stuck up one, but they were all mean to him. They kept taking jabs at him, and once he gave it back to them, they beat him up. And then there's thd dad who kept being partial to clyde the whole childhood. It makes sense that he hated going back to see them.

I was on Roscoe’s side then and I still am now. His family, especially his father, played a big role in pushing him away. All he really wanted was acknowledgment from them, particularly his father, but instead his father went out of his way to belittle him.

Honestly loved the moment when Roscoe let his Dad have it. Roscoe just wanted his Dad to acknowledge him and show some support, but he gave it all to Clyde and acted like he did nothing wrong till his wife told him how much Roscoe had accomplished without a single bit of support from his Dad. Clyde isn’t really innocent either but when Roscoe broke down he finally realized how bad he hurt Roscoe and had to make it right with them.
