I can’t believe that guy compared gender transition surgery for minors to heart surgery! What a 🤡
There it is... "Compassion for murderous criminals is abuse and contempt for average citizens."
As a former corrections officer and as a criminologist who specifically studies prison misconduct, thank you for covering this!
My husband is a CO and you dont get put in solitary confinement for no reason. Ita virtually always for some type of physical attack (stabbing, fighting, grape, etc.) The worst of the worst go there. Have NOOOOO sympathy for them at all.
The people who passed the halt act should be made to work as a prison guard for several weeks to see the results of their legislation.
If they ran our prison system like a form of punishment and not a grown adult daycare, it would help. Inmates have more rights and privileges than American elderly for God sakes.
I'm a retired NY state correction officer. I had 2 uncles, 1 brother-in-law, a son, a nephew and several friends who also retired from the department. The officers today are being FORCED to work at times 24 hours without time off. They are being forced to give up days off and vacation time. As far as "solitary confinement" goes, inmates who cannot live by the rules of general population are placed in "Special Housing". While in special housing, inmates are allowed 1 hour recreation a day; showers every other day; three meals a day; they can receive mail; law library materials; regular library materials and they can have visits from family, medical staff and lawyers. The public is under the idea that officers beat on inmates 24 hours a day. The public believes that officers carry weapons while working. Neither is not true. Officers inside the wall are armed with a baton and a radio. Officers are ALWAYS outnumbered by inmates no matter what area the officer works. In the medium facility I worked at, 60 inmates live in an open dorm situation. There is 1 officer in the dorm with a "rover". The rover covers two dorms as well as inmate movement to the yard and other programs. The rover also escorts inmates to special programs, medical visits, disciplinary hearings, etc. The rover actually spends little to no time in the dorm. Officers working the yard, gym, mess hall areas are often outnumbered 200 to 6.. This governor, last year, closed several prisons within the state. She forced officers to resign, retire or move to another area of the state in order to keep their job. Thank you, Matt, for bringing this to the public's attention.
One of those guards here. Imagine someone seriously assaulting you on the street, they would get 5-10 years in prison. If an "incarcerated individual" (since we aren't allowed to call them inmates anymore) seriously assaults staff or another inmate they can only get 15 days in the SHU. Tell me how that makes sense
Ahhhh, the wonderful "perks of being not a murderer ." 😅😂😅😂😅😂😅
This is what happens when a Society is more concerned with protecting criminals. Everyone else suffers.
