What too many people don’t seem to grasp is that the Iranian government (not the people – the government) do not think like we in the West think. The idea that they won’t just fire nuclear weapons against their enemies is naïve. You mentioned that Israel is ideologically motivated. So is Iran. When you have a people who have historically been willing to strap explosives on their own children and send them into public civilian places, that is a completely different mindset and thought process than we have, and until people, especially our government, understand that, we will always negotiate and argue with each other based on a false presupposition of “they will respond to our persuasive arguments or even our force in the way we expect, because that’s how we would respond.” Example - We value life, they (people with a mindset like the Iranian government) value death. For most people in the West, if we saw 3000 innocent civilians killed by an enemy, whether in Gaza or Russia or China, or even in Iran, we would weep over it. When 3,000 innocent civilians were killed at the World Trade Centers on 9/11, the Iranian government, and those groups they fund, celebrated and danced. When you are dealing with a person or group with a completely different value system than your own, you have to understand what that difference is. If you don’t, your opinions and expectations will miss the mark every time.
