Description

A 12-year-old Florida boy, Cristian Fernandez, stands accused of murdering his 2-year-old half-brother and sexually abusing another sibling. Raised in a life marked by neglect, abuse, and early trauma, including being found naked and wandering as a toddler, Fernandez’s early years were anything but stable. During questioning, he denied intent to kill, citing “flashbacks” of past abuse by his stepfather as a trigger for his violent behavior. His defense argues his youth prevented him from fully understanding his legal rights; a judge later ruled his interrogation statements inadmissible on those grounds. Couch Detectives dives into every piece of the interrogation and records to ask: Was this tragedy preventable? What role did trauma play? And how far can the justice system go when the suspect is a child? This was a 12-year-old born to another 12-year-old. They were both removed from the grandmother’s care because she was a drug addict, and was not caring her 14-year-old daughter and 2-year-old grandson. By the time of this crime, the mother was 25 with 4 children. Her husband, who was in the process of being charged for abusing Cristina, ended himself in front of the two middle children. The state of Florida absolutely failed this entire family. From the mother who was r***d at 11 and had her first child at 12. To Cristina, who grew up surrounded by abuse and then did everything that was done to him to others. RIP to baby David. He deserved to live his life. This family deserved better. This is a tragedy that could have been prevented if someone, anyone, helped this family.

This child is very immature emotionally for a 12-year-old . Babies and toddlers should not be left in the care of other children. This story is absolutely heartbreaking.

This boy is not right in the head. He looks and talks like a 6 yr old. The mom is totally responsible for leaving them alone and then not getting medical help for 4 hours.

Babies can be frustrating even for adults to care for. Leaving a child to care for a baby? Mom waited 4 hours to call 911? She should be in jail not the kid

Omg. His step dad hits him. He cannot hit back so he hits his step dad's son. He does not understand that the little body can not withstand what a 12 yr old body can. He has no idea what a life without abuse is. He is repeating what he has lived.

Let me get this straight; the mom knew that he broke his brother's leg a couple months prior, lied to CPS about it so he wouldn't get in trouble, and then leaves him in his care AGAIN?!👿👿👿
