Description

Eric and Eliot discuss Pete Hegseth's job security amidst the ongoing war with Iran. They recap his contemptuous testimony at a House Armed Services Committee budget hearing and Vice President Vance's efforts to distance himself from the war through planted stories. They then turn to King Charles III and Queen Camilla's visit to the United States and review the King's speech to a joint session of Congress. Finally, they discuss recent military developments in southern Lebanon, including Hezbollah's fiber-optic drone capabilities that highlight the changing nature of war. Shield of the Republic is a Bulwark podcast co-sponsored by the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia. There are no serious negotiations to end the war. The Iranians are not going to go for Trump's gibberish.

As much as I like listening to these two intelligent, professional men I keep hearing the 'American bubble' in which they live. Until the U.S has a war on their own land-such as Europe has had in living memory- you wont understand the European view.

Maga folks don't need a passport - they think if they cross more than two state lines they'll fall off the edge of the earth

With Trump being mentally incompetent, the cabinet members, the Congress and the Justices just proved they are even worse than he is.

Most Trump supporters can't afford a passport let alone to travel anywhere outside of their "hollers" .

Mertz was correct both times, the USA at the behest of Netanyahu, is being humiliated. The reputation and trust loss are immense. Lipstick on a pig doesn't work!

Oh no, Mitch McConnel.wrote an op-ed? I'm sure everybody outside Washington cares very much about it and that Trump is quaking in his boots. I'm glad that he's lived long enough to witness the destruction of America which he ha wrought.
