Description

A former North Carolina lawmaker tried to attack Juneteenth with bogus history, and Roland Martin tore the argument apart. The core correction was simple: Black Texans created Juneteenth, and the holiday remains the only federal recognition of slavery in America. Roland says the argument is both stupid and racist, then walks through the actual history: Texas was a Confederate state, Juneteenth happened on June 19, 1865, and Black Texans built the holiday into a lasting tradition. He also explains that Texas lawmaker Al Edwards made Juneteenth a Texas state holiday in 1979, leading to the broader spread of the observance. The panel expands the point, saying attacks on Juneteenth are part of a larger effort to erase slavery, rewrite Black history, and avoid responsibility for what this country did. Everything he is saying is a complete lie. In June 19, 1865 in Galveston, Texas. A soldier who is a General Granger announced that the slave in the state of Texas where set free.
