'The century of the self' is a great documentary about the impact of the self and how it benefits the elites. It's here on YT, but quite long though (4 hours).
This lecture series is akin to therapy. In therapy one grapples with the harmful beliefs about themselves and the world that they had been taught from a young age through their parents or superiors or specific traumas they had encountered through life. In this series we learn about the harmful beliefs about ourselves and the world around that we have been taught by the entire history of civilization and the way our collective thinking has developed through the progression of ideologies over centuries of development in order understand them in context to understand that our way of thinking is far from the only nor most preferrable. I like this style of teaching.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. You are the high school teacher I wish I had. I am in university now and I am going through all your videos and learning so much!!! THANK YOU!!!!
I usually don’t comment on YouTube videos but your final remark at the end evoked a very strong desire to change my life’s course. America, by design, doesn’t teach much about the roots of oppression, so I am very grateful for your insights.
What an incredible gift to society. I believe teaching, especially of the kind this man does, is one of the most selfless expressions of self.
I've found the critic of Freud very interesting and sensible. However, the critic of Jung seems a bit forced. Jung said that the path of individuation (looking inward to find who you truly are) is essential to be able to be in a community. So, he didn't want to put the single above the community, first you get to know yourself a bit more, then you can be authentically in a community. Using the scheme that the professor showed: it's the cult of the "persona" that is misused in our society. Jung created the scheme, but it was manipulated by who is in power.
Never knew that about Freud! Pretty wild that one of the most influential psychologist of the last century was a grifter
I feel like you’ve just opened a pandora box 😂
i think this video just changed my life
