I miss TV like this. Even 60 minutes today isn’t anywhere like this
I am a retired U. S. Navy Master Chief, surface sailor. But Andy Rooney's comment brought tears to my eyes. I too am proud of my shipmates, whether surface, sub- surface, aviation...on and on. Fair winds and following seas, shipmates, and to our beloved Marines, Semper Fi !
0:11 The Silent Service (1998) 13:32 Trident, Do We Need It? (1973) 30:06 The New Cold War (2016) 42:56 The High North (2019) 55:59 The Arctic Frontier (2016) 1:10:28 Andy Rooney Goes On a Nuclear Submarine (1999)
On the door securing our missels there was a Domino's pizza box logo painted with the phrase "Delivered anywhere in the world in 30 mins or less or your next one is free."
Blind man's bluff is an amazing book. I suggest that everyone should read it
Blind Man's Bluff is an incredible read.
These older episodes of 60 minutes are nostalgic and seem so fair and balanced. A stark difference with the current 60 minutes program. Trust, confidence in the program has been shattered over the last few years. Trust, once lost, is almost impossible to regain.
So this is what journalism is supposed to look like? Glad i watched just to witness actual journalism.
I lived a huge part of my life as a submariner before I retired in the early 1990's. I was involved in some of these operations that were so cloaked in layers of secrecy that they'll probably likely never be officially acknowledged. Those layers were necessary to limit the information to only those who had an absolute "need to know." Another term for that is compartentalization. The fewer who know, the better. I miss it to this day.....nearly 35 years after I wrapped up my time in. Those guys, and in some instances, girls I worked with, were the BEST, FINEST people I've EVER been privileged to have spent time with.
We need more submarine documentaries like this.
