Ever since I can remember, I'm an older woman, tipping was something you did after receiving exceptional service. When you received friendly and appropriately attentive service like checking to see if everything was good and keeping coffee cups filled. It's crazy to tip before you've even received any kind of service.
Asking for a tip prior to rendering services is just extortion.
If I have to use a touch screen and/or stand to place my order then Im not tipping. No more.
I was stationed in Japan for three years. You didn’t tip anyone and got amazing service absolutely every where
I was in a 100% self-serve "deli" at a hospital... you gathered your own items, made your own drinks, bagged your own stuff, scanned your own items, and paid at a kiosk. Not a worker in sight. They asked how much I wanted to tip. Who exactly am I tipping?!?!🙄
A few years ago I was at a college game, paid way too much money for a few items and was given the option tipping the kid 10%, 20%, 25% for the arduous task of setting my order on the counter. I stared at it for a while and he said “it’s asking you how much you want to tip”. I responded “I know. I don’t see zero anywhere.” We then worked awkwardly as a team to navigate the machine until we found zero on a hidden menu.
Live in Japan, tipping is not allowed our accepted in any circumstances. Feels so good.
I went to order some Blackout coffee online. It was already expensive, shipping was exorbitant and then a tip screen popped up. I cancelled the order and never returned to the site.
When I use self checkout I give myself 5 stars and don’t tip.
Tipping used to be after receiving great service. Tipping now determines the level of service you'll receive.
