Why Trump's Pending Billion-Dollar BBC Lawsuit Likely Fails Where US Media Settled

Discover why legal experts predict Donald Trump will receive zero dollars from his threatened lawsuit against the BBC, contrasting sharply with the immense payouts US media outlets made to settle previous actions.

Short Summary

  • Settlements with US media partners totaled over $80 million, often stemming from editing decisions or account suspensions following January 6th.
  • The BBC is reportedly employing unique jurisdictional defenses, arguing the allegedly defamatory content never aired in the US.
  • Legal analysis suggests the BBC's defense hinges on the high "actual malice" standard required for public figures in defamation cases, making a win unlikely.

This discussion, led by former State Attorney Dave Aronberg, analyzes the mechanics behind Trump’s successful media settlements and evaluates the specific defenses the BBC is raising against a looming multi-billion dollar suit. Understanding these differences clarifies the leverage Trump holds against domestic versus international media entities.

The 'edited' version just saves us the time, and discomfort, of hearing the whole, repetitive, diatribe, but DOESN'T alter the end result.

As a Brit, I know that if they pay Trump penny, the backlash will be EPIC. We would not tolerate it.

I’d rather the BBC spend UK licence fees on legal fees than a payout, a completely unjustified payout. You don’t give the school yard bully your lunch money, because he will come back for more. Anyway TACO - Trump always chickens out. Just imagine the discovery process with President Trump under oath, and on camera with people who will ask follow up questions and press him on his lies. ❤
