Analyzing Relationship Traps: Abuse, Insecurity, and Broken Agreements

Uncover three stark examples of relationship failure, ranging from immediate physical danger to self-sabotage fueled by jealousy. Learn why clearly defined relationship rules matter, especially when handling personal insecurities.

Short Summary

  • Evaluate a scenario where a boyfriend’s competitive nature escalated to attempted murder via forced underwater submersion.
  • Analyze how deep-seated jealousy, triggered by a family gift, caused a girlfriend to alienate her partner and risk losing him.
  • Review the consequences when an agreed-upon open relationship fails because one partner refused to accept the termination clause.
  • This episode analyzes three highly dysfunctional relationship arcs sourced from Reddit. It offers warnings regarding physical danger, poor emotional regulation affecting partner trust, and the severe aftermath of violating basic relationship protocols, even those self-imposed.

RSLASH holding somebody underwater isn't water boarding. Waterboarding is when you hold a towel over somebody's mouth and pour water on it, which simulates the sensation of drowning. But water does still get through the towel and you can actually drown!

Story 2: Can we talk about the SIL ? She seems to be such a good person and her advice was spot-on.

My brother used to pull me under in pools and hold me there until I thought I was going to drown. I haven't spoken to him in over 35 years.

Story 2: The SIL was trying so so hard to be gracious and understanding. I'm guessing from their reactions that OP got this insane level of insecurity from her mom.

A whole episode of delusional people Story 1: What was the guy expecting? Did he let his mask slip or did he genuinely thinking manhandling his girlfriend who's still a teenager was funny? Story 2: Yeesh, the jealousy is outrageous here Story 3: I take it back, the jealousy got worse. This woman is insane

Story 1: glad op is out of that relationship fast and loud because that could have ended badly. You know you can drown in very little water and it’s scary

Did anyone else catch a subtle hint at the ex's mindset in the last post? "She's living in my house, with something that should be my husband." SomeTHING that should be my husband. I think she views him as a piece of property, not as a human being. Are there any stories that involve the phrase, "I wanted an open relationship" that actually ended with everyone happy?

"Babe, all I did was try to drown you. Get over it!" I'm glad OP is out of there. It was only going to go downhill from there.

That blue plushie from Guild Wars, I think it was a Quaggan, I had one, my friend made it for me. When cancer took her, i gave it to her bf, so he would have something to remind her.
