It's not only the Chinese who think the US is two-faced. By now, most countries also think this, including the so-called US allies.

3 weeks ago China launched the first ballistic missile test for the last 40 years. It travelled 12,000km at mach15, hitting a preset target in South Pacific. The message was quite clear, any move by the US Navy into Taiwan, the first targets will be Guam and Hawaii.
The sinking sub was a fake news. The shadow of the crane was interpreted as the sunken sub. The depth of that part of the river is just 5 meters.

Before Tsai got elected, KMT was in negotiation with mainland China on reunification. Mainland China was willing to give Taiwan the same status as Hong Kong. And then, USA interfered. Majority of the population in Taiwan wants status quote. Taiwan heavily depends on mainland China economically and it gets special trade status from the mainland China.
