Explains why there's a photo of the two of them but not of the three of them. Explains the name of the monster as locusts are viewed as plagues that consume everything. Explains the monster's M.O. consuming the organs while leaving the body untouched. Explains the big heart the room is the wife's body where both her heart & monster shared a space.

14:21 how can you NOT mention Pomegranate's place in Greek mythology! It seems so relevant to this! When Persephone was kidnapped by Hades she was told not to eat anything or she couldn't leave. She ate 6 pomegranate seeds and her mother, the goddess of harvest made a deal that she would be able to come to the overworld for 6 months, but return to Hades the other 6 months. This was the reason that nothing grows for half the year.

the locust constantly being in the same room with the beating heart makes me think of "latchkey kids," and Arlo's sunken features being more self-inflicted. it's entirely possible that, while unfair, Arlo blames his child for the death of his wife, even if that kid didn't actually cause the death. instead of dealing with that, though, Arlo probably threw himself into his work (like a lot of people do in order to work through grief) and kept his kid shut away, and I'd argue that it hints at serious neglect, and probably also abuse.

My theory is that the Locust is experiencing a sort of "Tell Tale Heart" moment... but like literally... and he's being forced to rewatch all his deeds... not like he died or died again but like it's a sort of parent showing a kid what they did wrong
