God I'm still surprised how well this movie still holds up visually to this day
I worked on this! I did the hand that gets the knife through it. I also did Michael Ironside's amputated arm and a bunch of other stuff. I did the mechanical parts while other artists did the skin on the outside. I did a bunch of other effects. Pretty much anything human came from our shop. The bugs were a different studio. Good times!
I don’t know how my dad let me watch this when I was seven. Loved it then, before I knew it was satire, love it now
"Why does this look as good as It does" “Starship Troopers is a good example of hybrid moviemaking,” Davis tells us. “We had a lot of miniatures, a lot of really spectacular CGI from Phil Tippet's studio for the bugs. We had prosthetics and they had all the physical effects artists in that movie." Nuff said really.
always loved the dark implication that ultimately they are losing the war, and that its all just a repetitive cycle of death. shown by the increasingly younger and even older recruits at the end of the movie. they are literally running out of soldiers.
Nothing makes you feel old like seeing two people that haven't seen a movie that was a staple of your childhood.
Starship Troopers, Aliens, and Soldier were huge influences to games like Halo and Gears. A lot of Vietnam but in space vibes. This is as classic as it gets for 90's films.

Even after TWENTY FIVE YEARS the effects in this movie still hold up. The CGI bugs look great then and now.
Fun fact: they didn't have the CGI back then, so they had to hire an entire planet of bugs
