Forget about National Security or rare earth minerals, the one thing Greenland had that the US needed was Universal Healthcare.
Yes, it is necessary to abolish private insurance.
Michael Brooks was right, you are not technically wrong when you say a universal system can exist with private systems the issue is location. Given that the US is so corrupt if you fight for a public option it will inevitably be reduced to something even worse because it's a half measure. Secondly what will likely happen given the US track record is all these rich people will get on a private system and actively defund the public system causing it to crash like they do with the damn near every other government agency. So the reality is the starting position should be ban all insurance
Strong disagree with Sam on that one. Not abolishing private insurance is letting them keep a foot in the door for no reason. Same goes for education: look, you always have the option of going with public school, but if you have the ressources and want the best, better funded PRIVATE schools are available to you?! They will always make sure to keep the public option badly funded and barely functional, and use that to funnel people where private capital can make money.
I can't count the number of times I have found friends who had side gigs that made them substantial amounts of money, but couldn't transition to doing those side gigs full time because they couldn't navigate the medical costs of going it alone. They in essence were working a job that took them away from doing something they loved because they needed health insurance. There is a YouTuber from Canada that comments on progressive politics in the US, (The Rational National) who said he couldn't do what he is doing if it weren't for the nationalized medicare available in Canada.
Cost less, more humane, and makes the rest of the economy more competitive, lowering labor costs.
At some point Medicare for all needs to cover TEETH and GLASSES too. Because it doesnt. And dental problems have both bankrupted and killed people on Medicare.
Instead of "Medicare of all" maybe we call it "doctors for people"? I don't really care what universal healthcare is called, but we need it.
Eradication of elitism and millionaires/ billionaires and up is a MUST policy! Restoration of human dignity for all! No more slavery structures in society!
