It occurs to me that the Policy of China towards Taiwan is one of not so much a wish to dominate or control the political structure of the government, but of keeping the Chinese in both places from being used against each other by outside forces. "We don't want to dictate to you but we will not have you turned against your own people for the benefit of foreign interests." That's a perspective I can fully appreciate!

Mr Wong said it: the focus of China's primary political project is ' to take care of its people' i.e. it's a socialist country. We live under a system of advanced rentier capitalism where profit and the accumulation of wealth by the few is seen as the be all and end all of life.

I love China and chinese culture. I am 53 and started learning Chinese 3 years ago and the more I learn it the more I love it

I really appreciate Nelson Wong's views and the civilization of China and other old civilizations. Americans often misunderstand the behavior that has evolved with wisdom.
