Game of Thrones S1 E3 & E4 Reaction: Starks in King's Landing and The Wall Evolutions

Discover how Ned Stark navigates treacherous court politics while Tyrion Lannister provides unexpected support, and witness Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen experience pivotal character-defining moments.

Short Summary

  • Ned Stark enters a politically charged King's Landing, immediately clashing with Petyr Baelish and facing the precarious state of the Iron Throne's finances.
  • Tyrion Lannister shows genuine kindness to the newly paralyzed Bran by commissioning a specialized riding saddle, sharply contrasting his family's malicious reputation.
  • Jon Snow begins mentoring Samwell Tarly at the Wall, demonstrating nascent leadership by defending him against extreme prejudice.
  • Daenerys Targaryen transitions from victim to commanding authority, forcefully demanding respect from both her husband and her abusive brother, Viserys. This detailed commentary breaks down Episodes 3 ("Lord Snow") and 4 ("Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things"), focusing on how the show delivers crucial background information through organic storytelling. The review highlights the escalating danger for the Starks in the capital and the vital character growth observed in the marginalized figures of the series.

Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon return to Westeros as they react to and review Game of Thrones Season 1, Episodes 3 (“Lord Snow”) & 4 (“Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things”). Based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, HBO’s hit fantasy drama takes viewers deep into the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, where power, betrayal, and family honor shape the game of thrones itself. In Episode 3, “Lord Snow,” Ned Stark (Sean Bean – The Lord of the Rings, Troy) arrives in King’s Landing to serve as Hand of the King, meeting the cunning Small Council including Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish (Aidan Gillen – The Wire), Lord Varys (Conleth Hill – Suits), and Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony). Jon Snow (Kit Harington – Pompeii, Eternals) struggles to find his place at the Wall, but with Tyrion Lannister’s (Peter Dinklage – X-Men: Days of Future Past, Cyrano) guidance, begins to show compassion toward fellow recruits like Samwell Tarly (John Bradley). Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke – Terminator Genisys, Me Before You) asserts her strength in Essos as tensions rise with her brother Viserys (Harry Lloyd). Episode 4, “Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things,” expands the world further as Tyrion bonds with Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) after his fall, and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) shows his conflicted loyalty to House Stark. At the Eyrie, we learn more of the Lannisters’ political machinations, while Daenerys takes her first true steps toward independence as a Khaleesi. The famous “broken things” speech between Tyrion and Bran highlights one of the show’s recurring themes: outsiders finding strength in their differences. From Ned Stark’s honorable path in a city of liars, to Daenerys’ growing confidence and Jon Snow’s evolution on the Wall, these episodes set the stage for many of the epic arcs that would define the entire series. #GameOfThrones #WinterIsComing #TheKingsroad #Westeros #HouseStark #HouseLannister #DaenerysTargaryen #JonSnow #TyrionLannister #GoTReaction #HBO #React #ReactTo #Reaction #HBOSeries #HouseOfTheDragon #SongOfIceAndFire #ASongOfIceAndFire #GeorgeRRMartin #Literature #Books Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 7 Reaction: https://youtu.be/sGSZ6o5s9Lc House of the Dragon Season 1, Episode 1 Reaction: https://youtu.be/GRhxgrvqO6w Alice in Borderland Season 3, Episodes 1 & 2 Reaction: https://youtu.be/FXoKLH5ZLrg Follow Andrew Gordon On Socials: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@MovieSource Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/agor711/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/Agor711 Follow *Tara Erickson* on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@TaraErickson Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/taraerickson/ twitter: https://twitter.com/thetaraerickson 0:00 Checking In! 2:57 Game of Thrones 1x1 Reaction 35:08 HUEL 36:40 Game of Thrones 1x2 Reaction 1:10:25 Game of Thrones Season 1 Review Intense Suspense by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ RR Clips & Shorts Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ReelRejectsClips Follow TheReelRejects On The Socials: IG: https://www.instagram.com/reelrejects/ TT: https://www.tiktok.com/@thereelrejects?lang=en TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thereelrejects FB: https://www.facebook.com/TheReelRejects/ Music Used In Ad: Hat the Jazz by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Happy Alley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Head Editor: https://www.instagram.com/praperhq/?hl=en Supervising Producer: https://twitter.com/nerdchronic?lang=en Co-Editor: Greg Alba Co-Editor: John Humphrey Music In Video: Airport Lounge - Disco Ultralounge by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow & Listen to Us Wherever You Get Your Podcasts!! - Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3XHMwbveiznxSOGxN9XT0M - Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vc3Rhci13YXJzLXRhbGs - Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-reel-rejects-tv-movie-recaps/id1616339990 - Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Apocalypse-Podcast/B08JJP58FG PLAYLISTS: Movie Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw-comtadVs8b9JsZEWHUyr8 Sketches & Short Films: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw_zWuTRfBOUP3aYyIYRzc2y

One of my favorite details from episode 3 is when Ned walks in to see Arya practicing with Syrio, the sound design changes, it goes from the sound of wooden swords clashing to metal swords clashing because Ned sees how much she is into this and becomes nervous about her future, imagines her in real sword fights. Such a subtle change but such a nice detail.

I love the passive-agressive combat that happens between Ned and Jaime in the throne room. Not only is it a well-written scene full of tension and exposition, the whole scene is just laden with glorious subtext. Ned: Very handsome armor. Not a scratch on it ("You're all show") Jaime: I know. People have been swinging at me for years, but they always seem to miss ("Actually, I'm just that good") Ned: You've chosen your opponents wisely, then ("You're a dirty coward and only fight people you know you can beat.") Jaime: I have a knack for it ("You, for instance?")

Just an fyi, Gendry never mentions a relationship with his father. He only speaks of his mother because he does not know his father

The time when Andrew finish season 1 then he will know that this is not a normal show that he was expecting no matter how much people told him about it or the stuff he was listening about it here and there

Theon was not kidnapped. After his father's stupid attempt to rise up but lost, Theon was the only surviving boy child--literally like 7 or 8 years old. Rather than being held as a captive, Ned took him as a ward of the Stark family. He was raised along with the other Stark children---and has higher status than Jon Snow. Theon's story arc is one of the more interesting, along with Sam and some other characters---but you are not far enough into the story to learn of the other story arcs.
