Stem cell scientist Christian Drapeau explains how this process, known as bone marrow conversion, reduces our circulating stem cells by 90% by our mid-30s. This drastic drop explains why injuries linger longer and recovery slows down as we leave youth behind. The conversation covers the evolutionary reasons for this decline, noting that human biology evolved under shorter life expectancies where late-stage tissue maintenance was unnecessary. Finally, the clip looks at potential interventions to preserve or rejuvenate marrow function, including the current limited data surrounding prolonged fasting and its impact on stem cell health. 📚 Chapters 0:00 Introduction & What Are Stem Cells? 1:03 How the Body's Repair System Works 3:26 How Stem Cell Production Declines With Age 6:45 Why Stem Cell Decline Causes Aging & Disease 9:50 Do Stem Cells Have an Upper Limit? 11:37 Can We Reverse Bone Marrow Conversion? 🌐Links in this video Stemregen home page: https://www.stemregen.co/ *Cited Papers* Context: Mentioned by the host and Christian regarding the work of Doris Taylor, where a mouse heart muscle was digested away leaving a collagen scaffold that was subsequently repopulated with bone marrow stem cells. i certainly didn't know that stem cells from bone marrow enter the blood stream and help repair damage sites with local stem cells. i only knew of local ones which decrease as we age. pretty interesting. glad you can find guys like this.
