Paramedic here… We had a “demonstration/protest” keep us from responding to a two year-old that had fallen into the family swimming pool… “cpr in progress” per dispatch… We were completely halted by the crowd, and even after explaining what we were responding to through the PA system, they still kept us from moving forward. Dispatch had to send out a secondary unit that added approximately 9–10 minutes to the response time (we were about four blocks away… the responding unit was about 3 miles away)… we were told we should’ve choose another route… Even though we were on the route that both dispatch and the CAD assigned. The baby ended up having permanent hypoxic brain damage, was placed on a ventilator for about 2 months until septicemia ended his poor little life. fuck anyone who interferes with the flow of traffic.
