Trump DOJ Makes SHOCK MOVE in Court DEFENDING WHAT?!?!

Between late 2025 and early 2026, xAI installed 59 natural gas turbines without permits at a site in Southaven, Mississippi, next to a predominantly Black neighborhood and near homes, schools, and churches. The turbines power xAI's $20 billion Colossus 2 data center in Memphis, which the Trump administration has declared critical to national security. Capable of emitting large amounts of smog-forming pollutants and carcinogens, the turbines were installed without permits or any environmental review. After the NAACP filed a Clean Air Act lawsuit, represented by Earthjustice and the Southern Environmental Law Center, the Trump DOJ intervened on xAI's behalf, arguing that the government's decision not to enforce the law prevents citizens from enforcing it as well. Environmental groups warn the argument could effectively nullify a key Clean Air Act provision and set a precedent allowing presidents to shield corporations from environmental laws simply by choosing not to enforce them.
