Too late for mistakes , all ready planted
I have grown garlic from organic grocery store garlic for the last 2 years and have had amazing harvests!
Every time the grocery store starts to grow in the back of the fridge I plant it anyway. I got tired of it growing in the compost pile 😂
Can't wait to see what I did wrong as mine is already planted 😂
One thing to note, because you are freaking lucky to live in a place that doesn't get frozen soil (NOT JEALOUS AT ALL😂😂), the first frost date is NOT the date the soil freezes over. I notice some gardening channels talk as if after the first frost you can't work the soil, but that's very much not true. For instance, here in Niagara Ontario, 5b(ish), we got our first light frost October 8th. We got a second light frost a week later October 15th. We got a heavy frost this past Sunday October 26th. I planted garlic yesterday, October 29th with no issues, because the soil is very much still soft. Frost is just a layer of freezing water, not a layer of freezing soil, and it melts very quickly in the morning. Heck, we still get days with temps in the 70s!
Good timing as im thinking of getting some garden beds soon, garlic is something i have always wanted to grow!
Zone 9. I watched every single one of your garlic videos and did everything you said. My garlic is in. First year growing it. Here's hoping for some great garlic
I love that you share your failures. Your videos never make me feel badly about my gardening skills (nor does it make me feel like I NEED to buy something to be successful), which is very rare these days in the social media world.
I just planted about 18 seed soft neck garlic about a week ago they all came up I am in zone 9b
I LOVE this video! One of the most valuable videos on the web! I never succeeded with garlic till this spring. Sort of. After watching a bunch of videos. I vernalized my organic hardneck garlic and didn't plant till January, but I had to do SOMETHING already. I got a few nice small onion sized pieces and saved them for planting this fall. I also bought a bunch more and vernalized them for a few months. This time I planted in October and then found your video today. I STILL planted too early, zone 9b Florida. But I know I will get something better than spring. "You don't need that much garlic. But we planted like 400 cloves." So hilarious! My Dad used to eat an entire bulb, peeling and eating cloves like tiny apples, with his lunch everyday since I was in my 20's. Learning this from him, I juiced it since I was 29 (in 1989) and consumed it this way when I got really sick. I later learned I was being poisoned with arsenic for 10 months. God and garlic kept me alive!
