Tech Elites Go FULL EUGEN*CS
The Resurgence of Eugenics in Silicon Valley and Political Rhetoric
Discover how modern reproductive technology, corporate ambition, and aligned political ideologies are resurrecting eugenic concepts, threatening to create deeply stratified new classes of humanity.
Short Summary
- Tech startups like Orchid offer advanced embryo testing, allowing parents to select for positive traits like high IQ or screen out disease risks.
- This market-driven "genetic optimization" echoes justifications used by historical eugenics practitioners, causing moral debate over reproductive freedom versus societal engineering.
- Speakers contrast the technology's proponents, who frame selection as responsible choice, with political voices advocating genetic essentialism regarding race and immigration.
- The segment concludes by warning that without regulation, access to these tools will create a dystopian class divide, mirroring cautionary tales like Gattaca.
This discussion unpacks the re-emergence of eugenics in ostensibly modern forms. We examine the precise services offered by Silicon Valley startups to engineer offspring and analyze the ethical framework used to defend these practices against historical anti-eugenics precedents. Understanding these intertwined threads—technological capability and ideological justification—is critical as access to enhancement widens, threatening fundamental social equality.

RIP to my highschool biology teacher who made sure we saw Gattaca
I liked Gattaca (1997), but there is a disturbing trend for capitalists to try making these dystopia movies real.
So why is nobody trying to repair the genetic damage to it? I was born legally blind and would have appreciated a tune up.
"Saargar, I'm interested in your thoughts" *audiofade* *video ends* lmao
I have a disability, and if there was a way for me to have a child while not having to worry about the possibility of passing my issues down, i would take it.
Whitney Webb talks a lot on the tech oligarchs and their interest in Eugenics if y'all want to check it out.
A mother aborting a fetus because she just doesn’t want it is fine, a mother choosing an embryo with the best genetics to avoid hereditary illnesses is bad. Got it lol
GATTACA was meant to be a warning Silicone Valley not a suggestion.
What a wild conversation between candance and fuentes.
Had her mother had healthy vision, she would have never been motivated to create the company.
