Wait, there was a PNG 2.0?

There was PNG 1.2 in 1998 and PNG 1.2 (Second Edition) in 2003. To avoid confusion between "2.0" and the "Second Edition," the decision was made to jump directly to 3.0.

17:04 "Each frame in a GIF isn't encoded as motion data. It's a full new image. You have a full frame for every frame in a GIF" I'm not sure whether I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, or whether you're just wrong, but there are GIFs where one frame only contains the pixels that changed since the previous frame, or at least the unchanged pixels are not repeated in it. There was specifically an option in the optimization process for that in Ulead GIF Animator 2, a program from the late 1990s Anyway yes, I am excited for better compression in PNG, especially if it's significantly better even while remaining lossless.

It's as cool as you think. PNG is the backbone of the web image formats and (all?) other image software supports PNG.
