It was interesting to hear you expand on your comment about Pride. I entered adulthood in the late 80s/early 90s when AIDS was raging and shamefully stigmatised. Where I worked many of my coworkers were gay men and the virus killed every last one of them. Horribly. A friend invited me to share Pride with him when he was really too ill to be there. It was a revelation. I saw that his community was a family when his own turned their backs. The love, fun, and hope was interwined with outrage over mainstream indifference to the plague that was decimating them. It was...electrifying. Anyway, maybe it seems silly to some people now, but I just can't forget what it meant to a generation of men who died way too young.

Tim, the nicest, most kind person in my high school graduating class took his own life in his early twenties. Everyone was stunned. We knew he moved to the big city, to the most culturally diverse neighborhood. He had more guts to leave home and stake his claim than most of us. After the funeral, the truth surfaced: he was gay (we all knew that), but his parents and siblings rejected him outright. It was likely that core alienation that tortured him. We'll never really know. But, just simply choose love in all its many forms. 🎉 🌈

Appreciate you sharing what “Pride” means for you personally. The way you explained the big picture. Thanks, I’m a Black cis woman that believes the haters should stay outta people’s bedrooms, bathrooms and underwear. My trans woman cousin struggled to be a boy, was afraid to come out. When she did the entire family celebrated and acknowledged that we kinda knew from when she was a little.

I rarely comment on YouTube videos but man this made me tear up. As a straight woman from a very conservative part of the US I have never understood why people hate others for being different. Isn’t that the whole point of life to be different and to love and accept others for being different? Happy pride friends!🫶🏳️‍🌈
