Description

A neuroscientist predicted 15 years ago that GPS would cause early-onset dementia. The data now agrees with her — and she says ChatGPT is doing the same thing to your brain, but faster. If she's right, the way you use AI in the next two years could determine whether you get sharper or slowly outsource your thinking. She has a 122-million-person dataset on what predicts human performance — and her finding upends how most of us are using AI right now. We cover: why GPS is making people cognitively weaker, why ChatGPT is "the new GPS but worse," the Indian weavers and what AI gets wrong about progress, how to use Google Maps without losing your brain, and the one design principle every AI product should follow. Long before GPS and cell phones, I delivered pizza in a moderate sized town and knew every street in every neighborhood. I knew the alternative routes to avoid trains. Now, I don't know the street names in my own neighborhood besides the one I live on. In addition to that, cities and people have gotten lazier about maintaining signs and address numbers. If those satellites go down, all of our deliveries will stop.

I use AI as a sounding board for me to summarize my understanding and expose where my understanding is weak. Like having a good professor or expert to discuss and challenge things with. Used that way, I find my learning is strengthened. If I ever ask it for answers, I inevitably feel like my understanding of the topic is shallow. There is simply no substitute for the doing hard thinking. If you delegate that piece, you’ll be left with a weak understanding and worse, probably a weakened ability to think deeply the next time.

I never get a straight answer when I call my insurance provider and I am pretty sure I am talking to a machine.

I am am engineer in the computer/design field, they have turned our free knowledge and communication into a psychopathic entity. We haven't even discussed subliminal suggestions yet. ( yes it does influence you)

Remember when it wasn't free, even when it doesn't use data. They just made you ping some data to turn it on.
